Working where inner and outer dimensions meet

The domain I inhabit was developed through years of teaching and facilitating in peace and conflict studies, and across contexts where relational coherence is needed when institutional dynamics are strained.

I work with complexity, shaped by moments that required reorientation. It draws on experience across academia, practice, and lived experience, grounded in embodied and relational practice.

The pattern I recognise

These are not categories to diagnose.
They are conditions I have learned to read from within.

Complexity treated as a problem to be solved

The pressure to decide collapses the space needed to understand. At times it is governance, more often perception.

Trust that was never built, not trust that was broken

Compliance mistaken for cohesion. A collective that never learned to sense together, and now cannot act together when it matters.

Transition without integration

Old structures dismantled before new ones have taken root. Leadership exhausted, the collective scattered.

Fragmentation masquerading as strategy

Leadership teams technically aligned but relationally disconnected. The gap between stated direction and daily culture is widening and no one has named it yet.

Cross-cultural rupture at the top

Collective agency fragmented across cultures, histories, or worldviews with different assumptions about power, time, and what counts as knowledge. Friction managed rather than understood.”

The Formation of  My Inquiry

My work began in the field, in Quillabamba, whose name comes from the Quechua words for moon and field. The place where I was born and spent my childhood, 40 km from Machu Picchu, Peru. It was there that I first encountered how people make sense of reality when systems do not hold, and how agency forms under constraint. This was later shaped when I moved to Lima, by the conflict that unfolded in the streets of the capital, and an early drive to understand what was occurring. But it was during my fieldwork, in a moment when I was lost in the Ayacuchan highlands, that I encountered in the vast field what led to an inner movement that sensed the emergence of the answers for my inquiry.

Over time, through research and sustained engagement across post-conflict and institutional contexts, I began to recognise patterns of fragmentation, disconnection, and the erosion of coherence across individuals, groups, and systems.
During a Visiting Fellowship at the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative, I encountered the concept of the Vital Core, the inner space of human agency. The inner and outer dimensions of human agency were shaped through key inflection points, influencing the quality of the steps along my pathway. My work in human development deepened through contemplative practices, allowing what had been lived to be articulated and expressed with complexity.
Vivianna brings together transdisciplinary scholarship and professional expertise. Her research in higher education, systems thinking, psychosocial approaches, and sustainability, undertaken across multiple disciplines, languages, and cultural contexts, is complemented by certifications in evidence-informed, contemplative, trauma-informed, and systems-based methodologies that support inner development and societal transformation at individual, collective, and ecological levels.

Vivianna created a safe learning environment where we could voice our ideas and push the boundaries of our understanding.

– Former Student
Peace of Mind: The Psychology of Peace, Postgraduate Course, The University of Sydney

Despite the sometimes heavy subject matter, this class was enjoyable and fun. Vivianna created an open and fluid learning environment and always encouraged interaction and new ideas. She created a supportive and stimulating learning environment, and I dearly hope to have her as a lecturer for at least a few more subjects before I graduate!

– Former Student
Peace of Mind: The Psychology of Peace, Postgraduate Course, The University of Sydney

Vivianna explained even the most difficult concepts (ie abjection) thoroughly and patiently, and in a way that enticed me to know more.

– Former Student
Peace of Mind: The Psychology of Peace. Postgraduate Course, The University of Sydney

Vivianna was my Masters dissertation supervisor in 2023. Her insightful mentorship gave me the confidence to believe in, explore and find my own voice and creativity within the confines of academic writing. Her kind and friendly encouragement guided me and brought out my strengths. The research was important to me personally, and I felt that Vivianna understood what I wanted to achieve and enabled me to reach that goal.
